As I’ve said many times, we get the government we elect. Thus is the case with New York’s 14th Congressional District and the election of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Now I’m sure we can all agree there are those walking the halls of government today who have no business representing anything or anyone. Nevertheless, one need only listen to this young woman speak to understand this is a completely new low for the electoral process in our country. In fact, Congresswoman Elect Cortez is quite possibly the most egregious example of an electorate asleep at the wheel when it comes to this nation and what it stands for, as there has ever been.
From her blatant and frankly inexcusable ignorance when it comes to the foundations and history of the United States, to her stated policy initiatives that have every person who can bang a calculator or balance a checkbook cringing, it’s hard to imagine someone less qualified to represent “We the People”.
There’s always an argument for free and fair elections and whatever the results levied at the polls. However, it can never be understated that when a free people go to said polls, they should due their children the courtesy of knowing who they’re voting for and what the consequences of that election might be. The real issue comes however, when voters have actually pondered these questions and still filled in the mark for someone like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. That my friends, is a big problem for this great republic.
