A generation apart from liberty…

By the time D-Day 1 had ended more than 7000 allied troops were dead, many of them young American soldiers with the whole of their lives in front of them. Back home in the states, young men committed suicide because they were not allowed to serve for medical or logistical reasons. Sad as this is, it was representative of a generation, shaped by the great depression and hardened by the struggles of the early 20th Century. These brave men (and women) stood in the face of unspeakable horror and were prepared to give their last full measure to preserve a hard fought freedom they understood well. For those who left and did not return, as well as their families, our simple gratitude seems small against their sacrifice. Nevertheless, we pause and mark their history so we may never have to sacrifice so much blood and treasure again in the name of God given and “unalienable” rights.

As for those of the current generation not serving or having served in uniform, but who might be called to defend our republic if need be, born of basic privilege they take for granted at every conceivable turn, and taught the alternate truth of “higher education”, what do you bring to the table of liberty and human freedom? What are you prepared to sacrifice for the greater good you pontificate about and preach to others? And what will you tell your children when they ask about D-Day and what it meant to America and the world? I thought so….
